The National Council on Research in Language and Literacy (NCRLL) is a professional organization dedicated to language and literacy scholarship.

What We Do

The mission of NCRLL is fourfold.

  1. To encourage discussion among the membership of new directions in researching language and literacy (including new directions in theoretical framings, logics‐of- inquiry, and methodologies);
  2. To promote awareness of language and literacy scholarship occurring outside of the U.S. and Canada;
  3. To provide opportunities for the mentorship of scholars new to the field of research in language and literacy; and,
  4. To recognize the sustained achievement of excellence in the conduct of research on language and literacy by individual members of NCRLL.

NCRLL members from around the globe participate in conference sessions at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Literacy Research Association (LRA) Conferences. In addition, NCRLL maintains a listserv that provides information about opportunities for members to share and discuss language and literacy scholarship. NCRLL awards deserving members the status of “Distinguished Scholar of Language and Literacy” based on their sustained record of outstanding and impactful research over the course of a career and a clear record of and commitment to mentorship.
